Met Gala 2019
Met Gala, hosted at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art by Costume Institute and US Vogue, will take place on May 6th with the theme Camp: Notes on Fashion (with reference to Susan Sontag’s seminal 1964 essay). The Gala is followed by an exhibition.
In Susan Sontag’s essay camp is described as the “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration… style at the expense of content… the triumph of the epicene style”. Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute curator explained that he felt this theme would have political and cultural resonance with the present time.
Plus it will certainly push the attendees’ creative boundaries.
This years’ gala will also be co-chaired by Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Serena Williams and Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele.
